Lady Panthers continue road games

RANGELY I The Rangely volleyball team traveled to Caprock on Thursday, Sept. 16, and traveled to Meeker on Saturday, Sept. 18.

It was a weekend of highs and lows for the White team. Rangely took on the Caprock Academy  Eagles Thursday. The White team beat the Eagles 2-1. The team scored 18 aces as a team and nine kills. Kaitlyn Cox led with five of the teams’ aces. On Saturday, the team traveled to Meeker where they had less luck. Though Cox was again strong behind the serve line, scoring 11 aces, the team was not able to pull out a win. The lady Panthers were strong offensively but struggled defensively and fell to the Cowboys 1-2.

The JV team played really well and beat Caprock in two sets. The first set score was 25-15, the girls were able to serve really well and terminate play. The second set was 25-13 and once again the Panthers served the ball well and had many aces that set. On Saturday, Sept.18, the JV Panthers traveled to Meeker. They met a tough Cowboy team and lost in three sets. The Panthers fought hard the second set and came from behind to win 25-21. They lost in the third set 15-11. The girls all played really hard and unfortunately just had too many errors to terminate play.

Panther varsity hadn’t seen play for 10 days. The first match against Caprock started off slow for the Panthers and they couldn’t find a rhythm and struggled behind the service line. They dug deep to overcome, found their serving game and beat the Eagles in three sets. Miley Chism led the team with five aces, and Aspen Low added in four aces. Low led with seven kills with Chism chipping in four kills. Morgan Ellis did a great job moving the ball to all the hitters. Adelynn Halcomb led with 14 digs.

On Saturday in Meeker, the varsity Panthers came out ready to go looking solid, but it just wasn’t enough to hold off their county rivals dropping in straight sets. Chism led the team in kills with five and Kyrah Phelps adding in four kills. Halcomb dug the ball 20 times with Phelps picking up 10 digs.
