Scoggins first, PR for Dorris in Craig

Mary Scoggins

Special to the Herald Times

RANGELY I The Rangely Middle School cross country team stayed close to home by running in Loudy-Simpson Park in Craig, Colorado, on Saturday. The course was 2.4 miles and they raced along the river and over trails.

The girls had the pleasure of running first in the morning. The girls had five runners so they were able to run as a team, and as a team they took first place. TyLee Fielder led the girls by taking second place with a time of 18:26. Rachel Elder and Taya Wren came in sixth and seventh place.  Rachel had a time of 21:54 and Taya 21:58 respectively.  Samantha Granger was only a few places behind them taking 10th place with a time of 22:21. Faith Prieto ran a time of 24:07 for 12th place.

The boys only had one runner: Matthew Morgan. He was able to place 10th with a time of 20:58.

The middle school team only has a couple more meets left. They will be in Delta on Friday at Confluence Park.

The Rangely High School harriers ran on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021, in Craig, Colorado, at Loudy-Simpson Park. The course is a 5K — 3.1 miles — along the river and through some rough fields and up a hill. The course is not an easy course but several of the runners found themselves with personal records.

Mary Scoggins took off with the front pack and was able to take first overall. She had a time of 20:57. Hayley Burr went out hard and found herself getting a PR by 45 seconds with a time of 26:33 and placing 26th. Macy Morgan had a great race with a new PR of 28:51 beating her time by a 1:09.

Andrew Dorris also took off in the lead for the boys’ race and was able to take third with a new personal record of 18:16. Colton Noel had a great race with a time of 20:11 and took 16th place.  Kevin Wren and James Talbot ran the race together and finished 19th and 20th. Kevin had a time of 20:23 and James a time of 20:26 both setting new personal records. Fisher Winder took 30th place with a time of 21:13 while Anthony Dorris ran a 21:40 respectively. Joseph Adam ran a 22:17.

The team will be running in Delta today, Oct. 1, at Confluence Park.
