Panther volleyball home games today, tomorrow

Special to the Herald Times

RBC I The White team lady Panthers had major success this weekend versus the North Fork Miners and Plateau Valley Cowboys. These young women came out strong in both matches beating the Miners 2-0 (25-13 and 25-18) as well as the Cowboys (25-12 and 25-8). Kaitlyn Cox had a strong weekend leading the offense for this team. She also came away with 20 aces, 22 digs, 16 assists and several kills. Bailey Tucker was strong on defense with 17 digs on the weekend. As a team they were able to move the ball around and played really strong defense.

On Sept. 24 Rangely volleyball traveled to Hotchkiss to play against North Fork High School. The coaches and players of North Fork greeted us with an #isabellastrong sign and did an “orange out” game in honor of the Cox family and Isabella. It is heartwarming to see the other team support one of our own.

The JV team took North Fork to three sets losing the first 23-25, winning the second and third 25-18 and 15-11, respectively.

“The Panthers really worked together to defeat the Miners. We had great passes and digs and worked through some long volleys that ended with us winning the point,” said head coach Marybel Cox.

Serving was a key in our third set with Kristiana Terry serving six points to help win the set.

On Sept. 25 the Panthers traveled to Collbran to play against Plateau Valley High School. The JV team won in two sets, 25-18 and 25-12. The Panthers dug up almost everything that the Cowboys sent over the net and Terry and Miah Wren both had 13 digs each. Lexi LeBleu had six kills, Emmeree Wagner had five kills, Kaitlyn Cox had three kills and Kenzie Satterly had three kills. Serving was also key in this game with Cox and Karlee Halcomb both serving four and three aces respectively and Cox serving a total of 17 points between the two sets. All the girls played well together and ended the weekend with two great wins.

The lady Panthers met the North Fork Miners ready to play, it took four sets, but the Panthers got the win. Morgan Ellis did a great job moving the ball to all her hitters. Ellis ended the match with 32 assists. Hitters ending the match with kills were, Miley Chism with 10, Aspen Low with nine, Ashlynn Ducey with eight, Kyrah Phelps seven and Annika Cantrell with five. Defensively Adelynn Halcomb led with 45 digs with Phelps digging up 17. Low and Cantrell also played well at the net adding in 10 and seven blocks respectively.

The Panthers met up with Plateau Valley the next day and did not have the same outcome.  Plateau Valley’s serves and hitters challenged the Panthers.  Low led with six kills, and Chism chipped in five. Cantrell led in blocks with five while Aspen Low added in another four. Adelynn Halcomb ended with 27 digs and Phelps adding another 17 digs.

After a long September of road games, the Panthers are finally home Thursday and Friday.  Come out and support the Panthers!
