RANGELY I The Rangely Middle School harriers had the opportunity to run in Delta last weekend. The course is known to be flat and fast and was a 3K, which is 1.8 miles. The runners were all able to have personal best.

The girls started on the line first. TyLee Fielder led the girls with a time of 13:36, taking 15th out of 66 runners. Rachel Elder and Taya Wren ran together again and had times of 14:40 and 14:42 respectively; they were able to take 26 and 27th place. Sammie Granger took 4th on the team with a time of 15:29 and took 35th place overall.

Next on the line were the boys. Rangely only had two boys running, Jay Nickson and Matthew Morgan both eighth graders. Jay was able to run a 13:18 respectively. Matthew was close behind with a time of 14:54.

“It was a great race for all the kids. I am super proud of all of them and how they went out and ran. They all have some great potential in running.” said head coach Beth Scoggins.

The runners have one more race before the end of the season. They will run in Aspen on Saturday, Oct. 9. It will be one of the most challenging races of the year.

HIGH SCHOOL

After a challenging course last week the Rangely Panthers were excited to get on a fast and flat course for the high school cross country team. The Panthers ran in Delta at Confluence Park. The course takes the runner along the river before they head into a wooded area and then around the lake. The most challenging part of the course was all the teams: there were 22 teams represented. The boys race had 131 runners while the girls had 113 runners.

The girls were the first to race. Mary Scoggins led the girls with a time of 20:24, finishing 15th. “It was a good race for Mary, she went out hard and was able to hold on with a good finish.” said Coach Scoggins. Next in line was Hayley Burr, she was able to get another personal best with a time of 26:04, she took 30 seconds off her time from last week. Macy Morgan keeps getting stronger every week with a new personal best of 28:07. Rylee Allred was able to race this week after dealing with some injuries. She finished with a time of 30:18, which was a decent time since she has missed out on so much training.

All the boys had great races. As a team they were able to place ninth out of 16 total teams. Andrew Dorris found himself with a new personal record and placed 20th overall. His time was a 17:29 respectively, it was nearly a 45-second PR. Colton Noel was second on the team and also had a personal best with a time of 19:02. Kevin Wren found himself taking third on the team with a time of 19:48 which is another personal best. Coming in fourth for the team was Fisher Winder, who also had a personal record of 20:40. Anthony Dorris found himself just nine seconds behind Fisher with a time of 20:49. The last boy to cross the line for the Panthers was Justin Allred with a time of 22:43.

“I am super impressed with how the team is coming together. The boys are working hard in practice and it is paying off,” said coach Scoggins. “They are doing a good job of working together and keeping each other in sight during the race.”

Next week they will be running in Aspen on Saturday, which will be one of the hardest courses on the Western Slope. It has one big hill, then lots of rolling hills throughout the course, it is a good course to prepare for state.
