Letter: Rangely Community Garden near reality

We have five acres donated by Peggy and Carl Rector with water.
Our very first step is getting the fence materials and putting up the fence. We need donations for garden tractor, rototiller, rakes, hoses, hoes, shed and PVC pipe (water line). We can accept donations of good equipment as well.
The Rangely Community Garden committee will oversee development of one-half acre area for community garden produce and one-half acre area for individual/family plots. Our committee has nine dedicated members. Lisa Hatch (Workforce supervisor) is working on finalizing our mission statement and goals.
The Rangely Community Garden committee has plans for a commercial “Tree Farm” (project coordinators: Vicki Pfennig and Phyllis Henley) and a “Fun Pumpkin Patch” (project coordinators: Sharon Stewart and Rita Reich) for children this fall.
We have plans to plant sweet corn/potatoes and a salsa garden to sell to the community. Our future plan is to have a year-round green house for fresh produce thus promoting economic development in town.
We have nine dedicated people on our community garden committee and that many more on our email list.
If you wish to be placed on the e-mail list for garden information please send me your e-mail address at: [email protected].
Our next community garden meetings will be:
• Thursday, March 25 at 6 p.m. at the Rangely Rec Center
• Monday, March 29 at 11 a.m. at the Bronco (CNCC)
The Rangely Community Garden is for anyone interested in gardening and or helping out in the garden. This is truly a Rangely Community Garden and all ages and organizations are welcomed. There are none too old or too young to enjoy this community project. We encourage and welcome your ideas.
For information, contact Peggy Rector, 675-8573, or Phyllis Henley, 970-629-2897, or come to our meetings.
