RANGELY I Colorado Northwestern Community College head volleyball coach Chris Vergnaud and assistant coach Ashley Bryant wanted to say thank you to everyone who made Saturday’s intersquad scrimmage a huge success for the volleyball team.
“It was great to see everyone come together to make a fun and exciting event for students, faculty and staff members,” they said.
“A special thanks to Caitlyn Moore, Candra Robie, Jessica Kruger, Sodexo, Jed Moore, Kirk Lee, Jordan McLeslie, Brian Mackenzie, Jessica Hearns, President Ronald Granger and all faculty and staff members who attended the game,” Vergnaud said. “Also, a huge thanks for all the sports teams who came out to support us on Saturday night. Having you all in the gym helps create a sense of college unity, and I know we truly appreciate you.”
The match went to five sets with the Red team taking the match 15-13 in the fifth. Each set was close as each team battled for bragging rights the rest of the year.
“As a coaching staff, we were pleased with what we saw,” Vergnaud said. “To quote the referees on Saturday, ‘we have been reffing matches here for many years and I can tell you this is the best volleyball team Colorado Northwestern has ever had.’”
CNCC begins its 2016-2017 campaign this week as the Spartans left Wednesday morning and traveled to Iowa Western Community College (one of the two nationally ranked tournaments the team was invited to from last year).
On Tuesday, the Spartans will open up at home against Western Wyoming Community College of Rock Springs. The match starts at 6 p.m.
