Smoke from area wildfires has reduced the air quality in Meeker to “unhealthy for sensitive groups” at 38 micrograms per cubic meter of fine particle pollution.
Sensitive groups include individuals with heart/lung disease, the elderly and children. These groups should limit outdoor exposure, reduce prolonged or heavy exertion, and watch for symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath.
People with asthma should follow their asthma action plans and keep quick-relief medicine at hand.
Individuals with heart disease should watch for palpitations, shortness of breath or unusual fatigue, which may indicate a serious problem. Contact your health care provider if you experience these symptoms.
If minor or moderate respiratory issues arise, please call the emergency room staff at Pioneers Medical Center for consultation and directives. If severe respiratory issues arise, please call 911.
