MEEKER | On Aug. 11, several local churches gathered at Town Park for the second annual Church in the Park. Many attendees from last year remembered the unity and fellowship, and this year’s gathering did not disappoint.
Cherie Cobb, pastor of White River Methodist Church at 809 Park Ave., welcomed everyone, and Todd Bellamy, pastor of Meeker Assembly of God at 4th and Market streets, opened the event with a prayer. The worship band from Church of Meeker led heartfelt singing, followed by a message from Shane Woodham, pastor of New Creation Church on 9th and Park streets. Pastor Rich Ford from Church of Meeker at 1032 Jennifer Drive closed the service with an invitation for those wishing to be baptized to come forward and explained the logistics of the rest of the event.
As the worship band played, several hundred people walked to the river and gathered on the bridge to witness baptisms in the White River. The crowd clapped and cheered as each person came up from the water. In addition to the adults, at least a dozen young believers participated in the baptisms, having prepared for this special day.
Following the baptisms, everyone enjoyed a picnic potluck with lively conversations, children playing nearby, and new friendships forming. Gypsy Sol, owner of GG’s on 6th Street downtown, added a special touch to the event by cooking wood-fired pizzas on-site and sharing delicious samples.
“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” – Psalm 133:1
