On April 18, 19 and 20, Meeker High School students performed “Emma: A Pop Musical” by Eric Price for the community. Attendance stayed above 100 people each night, making the musical a definitive success.
The musical follows the life of Emma, a senior at Highbury Prep. After setting up two teachers on a date which results in their marriage, Emma is convinced she has a knack for matchmaking. She makes it her task to find the perfect boyfriend for a sophomore named Harriet before the end of the school year. Emma’s determination to find matches for her classmates causes some uproar in her own life, stunting her ability to find her own happiness. Based on Jane Austen’s novel “Emma,” the musical utilizes hit songs from timeless female singers and music groups ranging from Avril Lavigne to Whitney Houston.
On Saturday night, seniors Haley Blaisdell, Bella Blazon, Oliver Holmes, Jayda May, Cooper Michels, Opal Munger, Jacob Simonsen, Gabriel Smithers, and Averee Woodward were recognized by directors Shana Holliday, Janelle Borchard, and Nancy Richardson for their involvement in Meeker High School’s drama program throughout their high school careers.
The hard work and effort MHS students put into the production truly shone through when showtime came around. The cast put on a seamless performance, getting several laughs (and a few tears) from audience members. The tech crew further fostered this success with work put in behind the scenes. This production’s success wouldn’t have been possible without members of the Meeker community, the biggest supporters of the MHS drama club.
