RBC | Colorado Parks and Wildlife is now accepting applications for the Craig Youth Novice Turkey Hunt, scheduled for this April. If you are a novice turkey hunter under the age of 18 and are eager to learn how to hunt wild turkeys, CPW encourages you to apply for a chance to participate in this spring hunt.
Prospective hunters must submit their application no later than 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1. The hunt will take place Friday, April 24 – Sunday, April 26, northwest of Craig, Colorado. All youth are encouraged to apply; however, CPW will give special consideration to those who have never hunted, don’t come from a hunting family, or do not have the opportunity to learn from a mentor.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone under the age of 18 interested in hunting turkeys,” said Jeff Goncalves, District Wildlife Manager. “Many people are eager to learn how to hunt but lack someone at home to guide them. Once they receive hands-on mentorship from CPW experts, they will gain the skills needed to hunt safely and responsibly in the future.”

All applications must include:
The youth’s name, address, and Hunter Education number.
A parent or guardian’s contact information, including an email address and phone number.
A short narrative explaining specifically why he or she should be selected for this special hunting experience. Please include the hunter’s experience hunting.
Successful applicants will receive notification on or before Saturday, April 4.
Successful applicants must attend a pre-hunt orientation with one parent, guardian, or mentor, who is required to stay with the youth for the entire duration of the hunt. CPW will supply shotguns, ammunition, blinds, and turkey calls. The hunt will involve camping, and most camping gear, including wall tents, cots, and meals, will be provided by CPW.
“We could not do this without a great partnership with local landowners that provide their properties for these hunts,” said Goncalves. “We are very appreciative of what they do for these kids, and for the future of hunting in Colorado.”
