Repairs begin on school
MEEKER I A special meeting was called Monday, Jan. 30 for superintendent Susan Goettel to inform the board that the addendum had been negotiated and a draft budget prepared by Jim West of Vanir (the Meeker School District’s owner’s representative), including the additional cost to the district.
Panthers drop two
RANGELY I It was a good defensive game but Panther coach Eric Hejl attributed poor shooting in his team’s loss to the West Grand Mustangs and a “meltdown” in the third quarter for the loss against the Meeker Cowboys last Saturday in Rangely.
Donation for emergency vehicle
Williams recently separated into two stand-alone, publicly-traded corporations, Williams and WPX Energy. Representatives from both were in Meeker to donate $15,000 towards the purchase of a second quick-response vehicle for the Piceance Creek area.
Lady Panthers win on the road, lose at home
RANGELY I The lady Panther basketball team took its show on the road last Friday and defeated the West Grand Mustangs in Kremmling but lost on their home court to Rio Blanco County rivals the Meeker Cowboys Saturday last.
Leadership training
More than 20 people from Meeker and Rangely attended the leadership training course provided by the Rural Community Assistance Corporation (RCAC) last weekend at the ERBM Recreation and Park District board room.
3 Cowboys win first match
MEEKER I Last week the Meeker Cowboy wrestling team traveled to Paonia for a dual meet Friday and the Screamin’ Eagle tournament Saturday last.
Ice fishing derby
Both recreation districts in RBC partnered with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife for a family ice fishing derby Saturday last on Rio Blanco Lake, where Jayden Mack caught a fish. The Meeker Lions Club provided a free lunch for those attending.
Veterans ask for support
RBC I Several veterans from local VFW Post 5843 presented a proposal to place a bronze statue of a modern-day soldier on the south sidewalk of the courthouse lawn and Rio Blanco County commissioners had no objections to the project.
RHS Panthers split home games
RANGELY I The defending small school state basketball champs, the Little Snake River Rattlers from Baggs, Wyo., and the Soroco Rams from Oak Creek traveled to Rangely last week for games. The Panthers lost to the Rattlers but beat the Rams.
