Monday’s storm dropped up to 20 inches of snow in the mountains, prompting an avalanche warning for the Park Range, Flat Top Mountains and Elk Mountains. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended.
According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, observers have already reported avalanches triggered from a distance and below. Natural and human-triggered avalanches large enough to bury a person are possible. Even in areas without a warning in effect, travel on or under slopes steeper than about 30 degrees is not recommended.
The next storm system is expected to arrive Thursday night.
