RANGELY | Rangely girls’ basketball closed out its season April 2 with the 2017-2018 banquet. The team had many achievements to celebrate.
Team awards: Co-league champions, district and regional champions and a sixth place finish at the state tournament. This sixth place award included the program’s first victory at the state tournament.
Team awards (chosen by the coaching staff): Most Improved JV player—freshman Kacie Lapp, Most Improved Varsity player—junior Alanna Wiley. Co-Miss Defense were junior Makenzie Cochrane and senior Halie Elam who finished the season with 97 deflections. Miss Dedication went to junior RaeLynn Norman, and the Sixth Man award was senior Sarah Connor. Senior Katelyn Brown was the team MVP, and also received the career points award finishing with 1,547 points, the most in Panther history.

Western Slope All Conference Honorable Mention was Sarah Connor and Halie Elam. Western Slope All Conference First Team was senior Katelyn Brown and juniors Kassidee Brown and Skylar Thacker. Katelyn Brown was also Player of the Year for the Western Slope Conference. Skylar Thacker was also named to the CHSAA All State Honorable Mention Team while Katelyn Brown was named to the first team, making her one of the top five players in the state. The team also received the Les Schwab academic state team award for having a cumulative GPA over 3.5. The team’s cumulative GPA was a 3.76 for the season.
