Meeker has been waiting what feels like ages for something new to fill the old Pizza Hut building at 390 Market St., and I am ecstatic to report that the wait is nearly over. Coming in January the Southern and Galbreath families will be opening the doors to their fresh endeavor, The Little Bear Cafe.
Danny and Melissa Southern have always dreamed of owning and operating a cafe. After taking a few years to settle into the White River Valley, they are making that dream a reality alongside their daughter and son-in-law Tiffany and Blaine Galbreath.
Tiffany and Blaine first visited Meeker in 2012 when they took seasonal ranch work in the area. That season was enough to tempt them back year after year before they permanently relocated to Meeker in 2016. In that time their family has grown with the Galbreath’s welcoming their newest addition and fourth child, Laramie, only a year ago.
The family has done extensive remodels to the building but there is something that has always been there they are excited to utilize, the drive-through. Customers will be able to place mobile orders and simply cruise around the building for a window handoff. Tiffany says, “home style, home made, comfort food is the goal.” The cafe will be making comfort food staples like fresh donuts and biscuits and gravy every morning. But breakfast isn’t all. The Little Bear Cafe will be treating Meeker residents and those passing through to lunch and dinner with specials like fried catfish and green chili.
Unfortunately, delays from winter storms, worker shortages, and supply/demand issues, the Southern-Galbreath family is having to wait longer than anticipated for certain equipment they need before welcoming their first customers. The people of Meeker are no strangers to waiting for something good though, and patience is a virtue we can all practice as The Little Bear Cafe sets their sights on providing comfort with a homemade meal to our community as soon as possible. So keep your eyes peeled and nose clear when you pass by; there will be sure signs when the doors to this new eatery open.
