MEEKER | The Bureau of Land Management’s White River Field Office and partners will host a volunteer event scheduled 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 27 to help restore portions of the landscape damaged by the 2025 Lee Fire.
Volunteers will help spread more than 4,000 pounds of seed across 525 acres of habitat to stabilize soils, restore native plants and support wildlife recovery. BLM invites community members of all skill levels to participate in this seeding project. Partners joining BLM include Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Rio Blanco County, Mule Deer Foundation, White River Alliance, and White River Conservation District.
Volunteers and the project team will meet at the White River Field Office in Meeker at 7:30 a.m. to sign forms and consolidate rides. If you prefer to meet at the project site (about 45 minutes from the field office), please sign in online and notify the event coordinator in advance. The event will run until 3 p.m.
Please bring warm clothes (hats and gloves), sturdy boots, and water and food for the day as well as buckets and seed spreaders if you have them. The project team will provide some buckets, seed spreaders to share.
This event depends on weather – the BLM will notify volunteers if we need to cancel or postpone. There will also be future opportunities for other seeding events in fall 2026.
