BMS track wraps season

MEEKER | Barone Middle School tracksters had an exceptional day in Craig this past weekend.

“We have had an excellent season this year, and it was fun to wrap the season up by showing just what the middle school track team is capable of,” said head coach Marki Grant. “When the programming combined with hard work from the athletes produce results, it is an exciting day. Nothing beats watching the kids improve.”

Highlights from the day, and those placing in the top three were the BMS record-breaking performances. Lawson Anderson broke two school records on Saturday; he now holds the seventh-grade high jump record and the seventh-grade 200-meter run record. He also holds the 4×100-meter relay and 4×200-meter relay records with teammates Jake Grieser, Bryant Turner, and Liam Thomson. Another outstanding performance was in the 800-meter run, where Kael Overton ran an impressive record-breaking time and now holds the seventh-grade boys 800-meter record. Barone had a large number of top placers including: Midy Carmargo placing first in the open 400-meter run and second in the 100-meter hurdles. Tristan Nee placed second in the 100 hurdles and third in the boys’ triple jump. Anderson placed first in the open 100, first in high jump and second in the open 200. Mckenna Berthelson placed third in the open 100, Norah Loar placed third in high jump and second in girls long jump, Raegan Clatterbaugh placed second in girls discus, Gavin Allen placed third in boys discus and Hailey Schwartz placed second in girls triple jump.

“The relays performed next level as well,” said Grant.

The 800-meter sprint medley relay girls’ team placed third and was a combination of Loar, Carmargo, Berthelson and Hailey Schwartz. The boys’ team placed first and was run by Thomson,  Allen, Nee and Ashton Tapia. The 4×100 girls of Loar, Gracee Gardner, Schwartz and Berthelson dominated their way to first while the 4×1 boys took a close second run by Grieser, Bryant Turner, Anderson and Thomson. The girls’ 4×400 meter relay smoked the track with a first-place finish by Tinlie Strate, Tacey Toon, Clatterbaugh and Carmargo. The boys’ 4×200 meter relay of Grieser, Turner, Anderson and Thomson took second and 4×200 girls took third and was run by Toon, Cienna Rogers, Azalia Bresnak and Carmargo.

“There were several other athletes placing in the top five as well,” noted Grant. “We are so proud of these middle school track athletes. Keep an eye open, these kids are going to be fun to watch over the next several years.”
