The Barone Middle School tracksters kicked off their season with their first meet last Friday in Rifle. Jordan Brown is head coach for the middle school team and an assistant coach this year for the high school track team.

Dexter Chinn placed first in the 200 meter hurdles, second in long jump, and third in 100 meter hurdles. McKenna Berthelson took second in the 100 meter dash. Julie Kracht took second in the 400 meter run. Avarie Caulfield placed second in shot. Holt Pelloni took third in shot and fourth in discus.
Two relays took first place, the girls 4×100 meter relay of Berthelson, Kracht, Norah Loar and Gracee Gardner and the 800 medley relay of Berthelson, Kracht, Loar and Gardner.
Those placing in the top five in the eighth grade:
Tucker Chinn took first in the 100m hurdles and broke the school record, first in 200m hurdles, and first in long jump. Nathan McLaughlin took fifth in the 100m dash. Sawyer May placed first in shot and threw a personal record, good for third place in discus. Ruth LeBlanc placed second in shot.
The boys 4x100m relay took fourth and the runners were Tucker, Andy Monodragon, Nathan McLaughlin and Emmanuel Pizon.
The girl’s medley of LeBlanc, Ava Nay, May, and Keelan Dade took fourth.
As a team BMS took fifth.
“I am so extremely proud of every athlete on our team,” Brown said. “We have had just a few practices outside and very little time for them to practice their events. As a whole they blew all the coaches away with how well they performed in their individual events and overall as a team.”
This Friday the track and field team will be in Rangely for their second meet of the year.
