Jail incarcerations see sharp decrease since 2009
RBC I The Rio Blanco County Jail is still a busy place, but the number of persons incarcerated at the facility has seen a steady decrease since 2009, which was, by far, the highest incarceration year in the last six.
Rio Blanco County crime holds steady
RBC I The incidence of crime in Rio Blanco County during 2012 remained in line with figures from 2011, with some figures showing slight increases and other types of incidents showing slight decreases.
Program highlighted area pioneers
MEEKER I The Rio Blanco Historical Society’s “Pioneer Women of Rio Blanco County” program drew more than 70 persons Sunday to enjoy the telling of tales dating back at least decades in county history.
Conference to focus on outdoor skills
Special to the Herald Times RBC I Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Pheasants Forever are co-sponsoring a June 7-9 conference in Estes Park that will teach best practices for providing outdoor skills education.

Thin ice and thick ice on Kenney Reservoir, east of Rangely, offer a stark color contrast with the flow nearest the dam taking on an emerald green hue while the remaining thick ice at the upper end of the lake remains solid white.
Road work
RBC I Delays are possible along Highway 13 south of Meeker (mile marker 38) from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning in April and continuing through October. There will be single lane closures for fence installation and culvert work.
Controlled burn…
With warmer weather melting much of the snow and exposing last fall’s brush, grass and debris, area residents are beginning to burn off dead brush and leaves, such as this recent small controlled burn near Rangely.
