Cattlewomen sponsor beef cook-off with MHS

RBC | The Rio Blanco Cattlewomen sponsored a beef cook-off on March 8 with the Meeker High School Catering Class. Students used round steak provided through a grant from the Colorado Beef Council for their delicious recipes. All students received a “Real Cowboys Eat Beef” t-shirt and the winners received gift certificates to Watt’s Ranch Market. There were six teams. Kayla Scott, Graycee Cravens, Cooper Arnold and Mylah Gallegos made lemon garlic butter steak with rosemary potatoes. Nikolas Godwin, Wyatt Rollins and Tanner Goodwin served the judges beefy nuggets. Jorja Burum, Roxanna Rodriguez and Atzirty Ruiz make round steak with potatoes and corn. Fia Jonsson, Sydnie Ross and Kiera Forsythe received $10 gift certificates for third place with their version of beef stir fry with rice.

Second place and $15 went to John Bair and Gabe Cardile for their beef stir fry. Winning first place and $25 each with round steak, brussel sprouts with bacon and potato wedges was the team of Tyler Sanders, Dawson Willey, Sam Hightower, Wil Schwartz and Finley Deming. The judges, Iris Franklin, Ben Quinn and Denee Dinwiddie complemented the winners with a dish that was plated perfectly with nice color and arrangement and an overall “excellent execution.” Thank you to Mrs. Hummel for working with the Cattlewomen to make the cook-off happen. We plan to make this an annual event.

The Cattlewomen will be selling our “Real Cowboys Eat Beef” shirts and have recently revived the brand napkins of the past. We are selling spots to place your brand on the napkins for $30 each. You will receive a package of napkins with your fee and additional napkins can be purchased. Brands must be purchased by April 1. For more information, please contact Kathy Nelson, email [email protected] or follow us on Facebook at Rio Blanco Cattlewomen.
