Chilly Eagle Valley meet for RHS track

RANGELY | This past weekend the Rangely Panthers track and field team competed in freezing temperatures and high winds at the Eagle Valley Invitational. The weather kept the athletes from performing any season bests, but the Panthers competed hard and came away from the meet with some great performances.

Starting out in the throwing rings on the girls’ side, Aubrianna Tapia claimed fourth place in the shot put with a throw of 27-9 as Miley Francis threw 20-0. In the discus, Miley Francis threw 65-3 and Amber Castillo 44-8.

The lady jumpers were led by Addison Scott’s pair of second place finishes in the long jump and triple jump. She jumped 14-10 in the long jump and 30-7.5 in the triple jump. Kaelyn Geer long jumped 12-8.75 as Aubrianna Tapia finished fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 29-4. Kaelyn Geer triple jumped 29-1.25 and Emma Smith 28-1. Miah Wren cleared 7-0 in the pole vault alongside Kastyn Dembowski and Tylee Fielder who both exceeded 6-6.

The ladies also put together two 4×100 meter relays that finished within a hair of each other in 57.41 and 57.50. The girls finished 2nd in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:53.23.

Taya Wren secured another victory in the girls’ 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:38.55 as Courtney Casto raced to a 7:17.95. In the 800-meter run, Courtney Castro finished in 3:22.05 and Macy Morgan 4:45.50.

The lady sprinters had Ashlynn Ducey lead the way with a 1:02.03 400-meter dash, good enough for second place. Amber Castillo finished the 400 meters in 1:21.75 and Miah Wren and Aubrianna Tapia ran the 200-meter dash in 29.84 and 31.95, respectively. Ashlynn Ducey sped through the 100-meter dash in 14.37, followed by Rachel Elder’s 15.23 and Emma Smith’s 16.23.

The boys’ sprints were led by Robert Murray’s 12.88 in the 100-meter dash. Chase Cochrane raced down the straight in 13.17 and Izaiah Moody in 13.83. Logan Peterson ran the 20-meter dash in 27.61. Justin Allred ran 59.90, Lincoln Harris 1:01.02, and Caiden French 1:03.87 in the 400-meter dash.

James Talbot was the top Panther in the boys’ 800 meters with his fifth place finish in 2:10.40 as Justin Allred came across the line in 2:29.06 and Gage Nielsen in 3:16.39. James Talbot improved upon his position in the 1,600-meter run with a fourth place finish and time of 4:45.17. Kellen LeFevre ran the 1,600 meters in 6:04.57 and Gage Nielsen 6:46.21.

The boys put together two relay teams. The 4×100 meter relay ran 50.92 and the 4×200 meter relay finished in 1:43.27.

Out in the jumping pits, Jordan Irwin’s clearance of 11-0 in the pole vault was good enough for fifth place. Izaiah Moody went over 7-6 in the pole vault. Jordan Irwin jumped 37-6 in the triple jump and Logan Peterson lept 17-0 in the long jump with Robert Murray’s 16-8.75 and Davon Lucero’s 15-8.5. Kacey Allred jumped over 5-3 in the high jump and Davon Lucero cleared 5-1.

Chase Cochrane threw the discus 100-5, Justin Allred threw 95-0.5, and Jaren Blankenship 61-11. Jaren Blankenship threw the shot put 27-4.

The Panthers took a JV squad to compete in Grand Junction on Monday, April 8 and the varsity team will compete next at the Phil Wertman Invitational in Grand Junction, Colorado, on April 12.
