RANGELY | The Panther wrestling team traveled to Glenwood Springs last Friday for a dual with the Demons. The team came out strong and was ready to compete. Out of nine matches wrestled the Panthers won eight. Winning matches were Aydan Christian, Landon Carlson, Colton Stevens, Kobey Chism, Jaime Sanchez, Izaiah Moody and Kolby Olsen. Scoring team points for the Panthers by forfeit were Wyatt Stevens and Jaxon Torsell.
On Saturday the Panthers competed in the Eagle Valley Invitational. Chism and Torsell were crowned champions; runner ups were Christian and Kasen LeBleu; fourth place finishers were Carlson and Colton Stevens. Winning matches but not placing were Sanchez, Moody and Olsen. Colin Zadra did not make the trip due to illness.
“We also got a big boost from Jaime [Sanchez] and Kasen [LeBleu] getting back into the lineup, they were both out due to injuries,” said head coach Jeff LeBleu. “The team placed fifth out of 16, behind Fruita, Eagle Valley, Rifle and Delta. I am pleased with the team’s effort, but we still have a lot of work to do to get where we want to be, little mistakes and lacking confidence on some of the younger wrestlers.”
The team would like to thank the parents and grandparents for making the trip on the icy roads and supporting us. A big thank you to Dave Jordan for getting us there and home safely.
The Panthers will host the Duchesne Eagles tonight, Thursday, Jan. 12. Wrestling will begin at 7 p.m.
