CNCC Corner – Happy New Year!

At CNCC we are starting the year off running. There is already a wonderful buzz and bustle of energy and activity on our campuses. The college campuses reopened on Jan. 2 to prepare our facilities, and help those looking to begin their education this spring semester. Class registration will be open through Jan. 18 with classes starting on Jan. 16.

The new year is always a good time to reflect on the past and set new goals. It is an opportunity to clear out old ways of thinking, replacing them with a fresh, positive perspective. For those contemplating a new career, CNCC can help you make that change.

Rangely citizens receive up to 100% off CNCC tuition and Moffat County residents receive up to 50%. Other financial opportunities are also available to help fund this venture. General college, program-specific and campus-based scholarships are available. Additionally, Colorado residents who enroll in early childhood education, the National Park Ranger Academy or the nursing program through 2025 will receive Career Advance funding to pay for tuition, fees and course materials. Funding to help with transportation, housing and childcare may be available case-by-case. We find that many students who start their educational journey in January are mission-driven and are often quite successful, in part because our team of caring staff are here to help you every step of the way.

We at CNCC measure our success by the success of our students. It is for this reason that we take pride in sharing with you the achievements of some of our Fall 2023 students and graduates. They are beginning the new year having won significant honors and been offered life-changing opportunities:

Congratulations to Ms. Katelyn Dudley on winning the 2023 Colorado Collegiate Farm Bureau Discussion Meet! Katelyn will represent Colorado on the national stage in Omaha, Nebraska, at the AFBF Young Farmers & Ranchers Leadership Conference in March.

Congratulations also go out to CNCC’s cybersecurity students who competed individually and in teams in the National Cyber League (NCL) events this fall. The competition consisted of 8,580 students and 510 colleges and universities from across the nation. Schools are ranked based on their top team performance, their top student’s individual performance, and the aggregate individual performance of their students. These rankings represent the ability of students from these schools to perform real-world cybersecurity tasks on the Cyber Skyline platform. Students had to identify hackers from forensic data, pentest and audit vulnerable websites, recover from ransomware attacks, and more. CNCC ranked 80th among all participating colleges, just ahead of UC-Colorado Springs and Rice University. CNCC teams ranked 54th in the nation.

Finally, we wish to congratulate the Fall 2023 Park Ranger Law Enforcement Academy graduates. Many have already been hired to work in Glacier Bay National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Tetons National Park, and more locally Dinosaur National Monument and the Rio Blanco Sheriff’s Office. At graduation, the Academy’s top honor was awarded to Rangely local, Mr. Ryan Huitt. We are always so proud of the NPS graduates and look forward to their continued success.

As we move into this new year, let us do so with hope and determination, respect and gratitude, and selflessness and compassion. Join us all in Spartan Country as we ring in 2024.
