CNCC to dedicate new soccer field April 26 in Rangely

RANGELY | Colorado Northwestern Community College Celebrates the Groundbreaking of a New Soccer Field with Dedication Ceremony

Rangely, Colorado— Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) is pleased to announce the dedication ceremony for its new soccer field, marking a significant milestone in the enhancement of athletic facilities within the local community. The dedication ceremony will take place on April 26 at 11:30 a.m., at the Colorado Northwestern Community College Rangely campus located at 500 Kennedy Drive.

This event signifies the culmination of years of planning, construction, and community support, resulting in the creation of a state-of-the-art soccer field that will serve as a hub for athletic excellence, recreation, and community engagement.

“I am so excited for the groundbreaking of our new soccer field. This development marks a pivotal moment for CNCC athletics, as we invest in college-level facilities to support the growth and success of our student-athletes. The construction of the soccer field signifies our dedication to providing an exceptional experience for our athletes and fostering a culture of excellence within our athletics program. I am confident that this new facility will serve as a hub for competition, camaraderie, and achievement for years to come, and I look forward to witnessing the positive impact it will have on our community,” said Zach Stevenson, Athletic Director for CNCC.

The initial vision for the soccer field started decades ago by a long time resident and supporter of CNCC, Larry “Bud” Striegel. Bud and his family have been instrumental members of the Rangely Community since 1945 (one year before Rangely was even an incorporated town) and provided years and years of service since. He is an emeritus board member of the Foundation but was an active Foundation Board member for over three decades. Bud has been a strong supporter of CNCC since its inception in 1962. His dedication (both in time and fiscally) to this institution has been shown through deeds year after year. He was the major donor for the Striegel Engineering Building on campus, started two scholarship funds that help students of all backgrounds gain access to education, and was the sole provider for all the initial groundwork for both the Spartan Softball Field and now the Rangely Campus soccer field.

CNCC President Dr. Lisa Jones added, “We are delighted to be breaking ground on the Bud Striegel Soccer Field which will provide our athletes with a first-rate field to practice and host games, enhance the aesthetic appeal of our Rangely campus entrance, and serve our community. We are especially proud to name this field after a family known and respected for their philanthropic leadership and support of education.”

“I am thrilled to witness the commencement of construction on our new soccer field. This project represents a significant step forward for CNCC athletics, and we are excited to provide our student-athletes with a first-class facility to compete and excel. The dedication ceremony honoring Bud Striegel underscores our commitment to honor those who have made a lasting impact on our community and our college. We look forward to the completion of the Bud Striegel Family Soccer Field and the countless memorable moments it will facilitate for our athletes and fans,” added Stevenson.

About the Soccer Field:

The new soccer field at Colorado Northwestern Community College will be completed in a phased approach. Phase I will include irrigation, a NJCAA regulation-size playing field, and fencing and phase II (depending on funding) will include a playground with picnic area, restrooms, and grandstands.

This addition to our campus not only enhances the college’s athletic infrastructure but also provides a venue for promoting physical activity, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students and community members alike.

Previous President and current Foundation Chair Ronald Granger stated, “The new soccer field will not only be a boost to our soccer program, but it is also a great asset to CNCC and our community of Rangely.”

Join Us for This Historic Event:

We invite students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, and soccer enthusiasts of all ages to join us for the dedication ceremony of the new soccer field. Together, let us celebrate this milestone achievement and the exciting opportunities it brings for our college and the wider community.
