RANGELY | The 2016-2017 campaign for the Lady Spartan volleyball team came to an end last weekend as they lost in the first round of conference to No. 8 Snow College in straight sets.
“Even though it was a disappointing end to the season we were able to break another school record,” said interim athletic director Chris Vergnaud.
Congratulations to freshman volleyball player Sai Collins who was named to the SWAC All Conference second team. She was only three points away from earning a first team nomination and a consideration for All-American. Also, Crystal Powell earned the SWAC All Conference Honorable Mention.
The men’s basketball team began their campaign on the road against Lamar Community College. After a tight first half the Spartans fell 74-53 to the Running Lopes. Devin Davis was the Spartans leading scorer with 17 total points. The men were able to regroup and bounce back on night two as they took on Lamar Community College’s JV team. The Spartans had Marquel Murphey, Andrija Blatancic, John Parker and Noah Lechman in double digits as they defeated Lamar JV 76-46. The men are 1-1 to start the season.
The women’s basketball team traveled to Rock Springs, Wyo., to participate in the Western Wyoming Classic. The Lady Spartans easily dismantled the Wyoming All Stars 104-37, but fell short against the Utah All Stars 82-104 and Western Wyoming Community College 50-58. Shelby Harvey led the way with 24 total points scored against Utah All Stars, while sister Kelsey Harvey scored 12 points against Western Wyoming. The Spartan women are 1-2 to start the season.
