Most people don’t just find Rangely; Rangely beckons them to share their talents and contribute to everything that makes this an extraordinary place to live. That’s what happened with Ashley and Nate Terrin when they each began their trek to Rangely individually, and now are the nervous, yet proud, proprietors of Coaches Corner Bar and Grill. Coaches is located at 35 Park St., just off Main Street, adjacent to the Blue Mountain Inn.
The new restaurant officially opened on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023. The Terrins are former coaches and athletes who wanted to pivot from being directly involved in sports to utilizing their skills in ways that allowed them greater independence. Ashley uses her coaching skills to manage the staff of 18 servers, bartenders, and cooks. She and Nate view themselves as part of the team with their sleeves rolled up to make their dream come true.
The couple married in 2022, just before taking the plunge into their new business venture.
Rangely found Ashley in 2014 through a coaching associate who needed an assistant coach for the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans volleyball team. She hails from Florida, where she began playing volleyball at 11, and the dream of being a coach was inspired at 14. Nate was recruited from Arizona through Colorado Mesa University, where he played basketball, and came to CNCC to be an assistant coach for the men’s basketball team. The two share a love for each other, sports, their families, and their two dogs — a pit bull mix named Charlie and a young, playful golden retriever named Patrononus.
They have aspirations of hosting big game events and being the go-to place for fellow sports enthusiasts, including the college athletes who “are always eating” and need a safe place to hang out. The timing of the opening allows them to prepare to host the Super Bowl game on Sunday, Feb. 12.
The experience of opening a restaurant has tested their resolve and dedication to their dream. From intense cleaning after signing the lease to chasing Patrononus, who escaped from their yard just 12 minutes before the doors opened. All the challenges work together for the greater good when you solve problems. Nate shared the range of experiences that come with a restaurant owner. Ashley gives credit and gratitude to Candra Robie for her efforts with paperwork, menu design, and all around partnership in the business. The trio share memories and collaboration skills from coaching in the athletic department at CNCC.
Life is a roller coaster your effort and stamina will be the ultimate test of your game. Ashley shared how her parents instilled the value of hard work and determination in her and her sister as young athletes. Those values carry her through the difficult times to bring them to the rewarding moments of pay-off.
Coaches is open Monday 4-11 p.m., Tuesday closed, Wednesday 4-11 p.m., Thursday 4-1 a.m., Friday 4-2 a.m., Saturday 4-2 a.m., and Sunday 11-11 p.m
