PRESS RELEASE
RBC | The Colorado Department of Agriculture is accepting applications for Soil Health and Optimizing Water Grants designed to help farmers and ranchers improve water efficiency through healthier soils.
The competitive grants, part of the Colorado Soil Health Program, provide up to $50,000 per project to support practices that improve soil function and strengthen water management on working lands.
Eligible applicants include individual farmers and ranchers, producer-serving organizations, nonprofit organizations, research institutions, local governments and conservation districts. Projects must demonstrate a clear connection between soil health practices and water resource management and include an education or outreach component such as field days, workshops or peer-to-peer learning.
Grant funds may be used for equipment, supplies, labor, construction, grazing management, monitoring and data collection, and permitting or feasibility studies. Individual equipment purchases are capped at $10,000, and indirect costs may not exceed 15% of the award.
Applications opened Dec. 11, 2025, and are due by 5 p.m. Jan. 20, 2026. Projects are expected to run through Sept. 30, 2027, with final reports due Dec. 1, 2027.
