Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) is thrilled to announce the exciting expansion of its athletic program with the addition of cross country to its sports roster, with the expectation of competition starting in the fall of 2024. This new endeavor reflects CNCC’s commitment to fostering a diverse and dynamic campus experience, offering students and the Rangely community an opportunity to engage in the invigorating world of cross-country running.
Athletics Director Zach Stevenson made the announcement, expressing his belief in the positive impact this addition will have on both the college and the local community.
“At CNCC, we are constantly seeking ways to enhance the student experience and contribute to the vibrancy of our community. The introduction of cross country aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing opportunities for personal growth, teamwork and physical well-being,” he said.
The decision to introduce cross country comes after careful consideration of student interests, community feedback, and the desire to offer a well-rounded selection of athletic programs. CNCC is confident that this addition will not only attract passionate athletes but will also contribute to the overall health and wellness of the student body.
CNCC will commence the search for a dedicated and experienced full-time cross country coach immediately. The chosen coach will play a pivotal role in shaping the program, guiding athletes toward success, and fostering a culture of sportsmanship and dedication.
“We are committed to recruiting a coach who shares our values and is dedicated to the holistic development of our student-athletes. With the right leadership, we believe CNCC cross country has the potential to become a great addition within collegiate athletics,” added Stevenson.
The inclusion of cross country at CNCC is expected to bring together students, faculty and the Rangely community, creating a sense of pride and unity. The college anticipates that the sport will not only thrive within its academic setting but will also become a source of community pride.
Prospective athletes and those interested in joining the CNCC cross country team are encouraged to complete a recruiting questionnaire on the CNCC athletics website.
