Firm Foundation Childcare open house Feb. 18
MEEKER | Firm Foundation Childcare (FFC) is hosting an open house on Sunday, Feb. 18 from 2-4 p.m. at 1032 Jennifer Dr. in Meeker. Firm Foundation Childcare (FFC) is a large childcare Center caring for children 6 weeks to 7 years old in beautiful Meeker, Colorado. Our FFC Staff strives to create a firm foundation of Christ’s love for us and living for Jesus out loud with our heart, voice and actions. Firm Foundation Childcare was established in 2023 and is operated by the Firm Foundation Childcare Board of Directors. Firm Foundation Childcare is a ministry of The Church at Meeker, and as such, spiritual growth is a key component of the goals for all children and staff. Christian beliefs will be expressed to the children, as well as the importance of faith and trust in God. Education in the classrooms will include prayer before meals, Bible verses and Christian songs. Firm Foundation Childcare promotes spiritual, social, cognitive, emotional and physical development of every young child. Our curriculum comes out of a Christian worldview with Bible-based curriculum woven into the infant, toddler and preschool curriculum material providing opportunities to develop godliness of character and action.
Fish Fry next Friday, Feb. 23
MEEKER | The Catholic Church is hosting a Lenten Fish Fry on Friday, Feb. 23, at the Holy Family Parish Hall, 889 Park Ave., Meeker, from 5-8 p.m. Fish, fries, coleslaw, tartar sauce and dessert will be served. Cost is $17/adult and $6 /children. There will also be a dessert auction. Proceeds will benefit the Holy Family Building Fund. Come and enjoy good food and community fellowship.
Third annual chili cook-off at Smoking River Brewing Co. Feb. 24
MEEKER | The third annual Chili Cook-Off at Smoking River Brewing Co. will be held Saturday, February 24, 4-7 p.m. Let’s see who has the best chili recipes! Enter to win bragging rights and prizes! Awards will be given to Best Overall, People’s Choice, Best Green Chili and Best Red Chili. Check Facebook for the link to sign up as a contestant or pick up a form at the brewery. Tickets for tasters are $12 and includes two beers.
Republican precicnt caucus March 7
RBC | Rio Blanco Republican Precinct Caucus is March 7, 2024, at 7 p.m. Precincts 1 and 2 at Rangely Town Hall, Precincts 3 and 4 at Meeker Fairgrounds, Precinct 5 at Rock School. Rio Blanco Republican County Assembly is March 23 at 10 a.m. in Rangely at CNCC’s Colorado Room.
Democractic precinct caucus March 9
RBC | Rio Blanco County registered Democrats, choosing the right candidates to represent us at the local, state and national level begins at your local Precinct Caucus. The Rio Blanco County Democrats will hold their precinct caucus, assembly and convention on March 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the Meeker Public Library, 490 Main St., in the community meeting room. Being citizens of the U.S. we treasure living in a Democracy. We must share in the responsibility of keeping it strong. Please come and participate!
Library book club March 11
RBC | The Meeker Public Library book club is reading Something of Value by Robert Ruark, a novel based on events that took place in Kenya Colony during the violent Mau Mau insurrection of the 1950s. We will meet to discuss the book at the Meeker Public Library on Monday, March 11, at 1 p.m. Extra copies will be available for check out at the library if you would like to read the book.
Local author to release second book
MEEKER | Local author Marissa Lupe’s second novel, “Stars Like Fire,” which follows the story of her first novel, “Stars Like Acid,” will be released on March 18, 2024. Lupe will hold a book signing event at the Meeker Public Library on March 21 from 6-8 p.m.
