Play a part in the Pageant
MEEKER | Practices for the Meeker Pageant are June 27-29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds. Meet by the grandstands. Youth must have a parent or guardian come to the first practice to sign required paperwork. The Pageant performance will be Sunday, July 2 in the evening.
Milk Creek tour July 1, root beer floats July 4
MEEKER | The Rio Blanco County Historical Society is hosting a guided tour of the Milk Creek Battlefield Site on Saturday, July 1. Meet at the White River Museum (565 Park) at 9 a.m. to convoy to the site. The tour is free, but donations are accepted. On Tuesday, July 4, come get your root beer float for $5 at Streamline Realty (600 Main St.) downtown starting at 9:30 a.m. Proceeds support the maintenance of historic local schoolhouses.
Run for your life this Fourth of July
MEEKER | Run (or walk) a 5K on the 4th! This year’s Run for Your Life 5K is an event for all ages and abilities. Bring your family, pets (on a leash) and friends. This fun annual event is put on by ERBM Recreation and Park District. The cost of the race is $20 if you pre-register by 4 p.m. July 3. Call 970-878-3403 to pre-register or stop by the Meeker Recreation Center at 101 Ute Road. The latest you can register is 7:15 a.m. on race day. Late registration is $30. Come to the ERBM tent near the starting line at the downtown plaza to pick up your race packet. Anyone not signed up by 7:15 a.m. is welcome to join the route but will not be timed.
The race starts at the downtown plaza at 7:45 a.m. Walkers will be awarded separately form runners. There will be a 1.5 hour time limit to finish.
Jon Wangnild Memorial Family Fun Shoot July 4
MEEKER | The Meeker Sportsman’s Club and Colorado Parks and Wildlife are hosting the Jon Wangnild Memorial Family Fun Shoot from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, July 4 at the Meeker Sportsman’s Club Shooting Range (2553 Sulphur Creek Rd. approximately 1.4 miles past the end of the pavement — follow the signs.) Try your hand at archery, pistols, rifles and muzzleloaders, free! Bring the whole family for some fun. All equipment, ammunition and assistance provided. New location for Stars N’ Stripes basketball tourney
MEEKER | Start your Fourth of July with a bang and a bounce. The Stars N’ Strips 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament returns this Independence Day. The event will have a new location this year. Games will take place in the parking lot behind the Administration Building at 555 Garfield St. Teams are grouped by grade: 3rd-4th; 5th-6th; 7th-8th; 9th-12th; and 18 years and older.
Games begin at 12 p.m. Skip the line and pre-register online at erbmrec.com/register, or register in person at Meeker Recreation Center until 4 p.m. on July 3. Late registrations will be taken in the parking lot (cash or check only) on the day of the event. Team check-ins are 10:30-11:30 a.m. Rules and regulations are available at the Recreation Center.
Book club July 10
MEEKER | The Meeker Library book club book will be reading “The All-Girls Filling Station’s Last Reunion” by Fannie Flagg. We will discuss the book on Monday, July 10 at 1 p.m. All are welcome to join in the fun.
Free legal clinic
MEEKER | A free legal clinic for parties who have no attorney is set for Wednesday July 12, 2023, from 2-5 p.m. Volunteer attorneys will answer questions and explain the process and procedure for all areas of Colorado civil law, including family law, property law, probate law, collections, appeals, landlord-tenant law, small claims, veterans issues, and civil protection orders. Contact your Meeker Library at 970-878-5911 to be added to the sign-up sheet. Space is limited.
