First Meekerpalooza this Friday

MEEKER | Live music, food, fun and family…what more could you want? The Meeker Friday concert tradition continues in June and July. Music will be provided by West Highway 7 (June 9); Elk Range (June 23); Noodle Soup (July 14) and A Band Called Alexis (July 21). Music begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Meeker Downtown Plaza and ends at 9 p.m. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and get comfortable. The Meeker Arts and Cultural Council will be offering a beer garden and various kids activities. The outdoor concerts are free, sponsored by the Eastern Rio Blanco Metro Recreation (ERBM) District. ERBM will be organizing a cornhole tournament at 6:30 p.m. on June 9, and a pickleball doubles tournament at 6:30 p.m. on July 14. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Please pay the $10 fee onsite with cash or check. In addition to the music, there will be a farmers market hosted by the Meeker Chamber of Commerce on June 9 and July 21 featuring local produce, crafts and food. Vendors open their tents at 4 p.m. On July 21, the concert will be sponsored by the White River Electric Association (WREA). WREA will be presenting their annual membership appreciation dinner on the courthouse lawn at 5 p.m. just before the concert begins. Mark your calendar so you don’t miss out on the fun!

Book Club meeting June 12

MEEKER | The book club will be reading “The Agitators: Three Friends Who Fought for Abolition and Women’s Rights” by Dorothy Wickenden. We will discuss the book on Monday, June 12 at 1 p.m. at Meeker Public Library. All are welcome to join in the fun.

Summer Solstice Festival at The TANK

RANGELY | Mark your calendars to visit The Tank for the Summer Solstice Festival June 23-25 in sound and song. Composer/performer Ben Neill, the inventor of the Mutantrumpet, a hybrid electro-acoustic instrument, will perform on Friday at 8 p.m. Buy tickets online here. Bay Area music scene giant Beth Custer brings her clarinets, including the big bass one, along with her voice, percussion and toys to the 2023 Solstice Festival on Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets for Custer’s performance are available here. Sunday, June 25 at noon the women of Sound Circle, an 18-voice a cappella women’s vocal ensemble will perform a free concert. The Tank Center for Sonic Arts is located at 233 CR 46 in Rangely, Colorado.

LDS Church presents finance course

RBC | The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will present a financial self-reliance course for those who want better control over their finances. The group will meet weekly on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. using Zoom. Classes begin June 20. This is a 12 week program with a workbook and a facilitator. Lesson materials are presented with a faith-based approach using gospel principles but are applicable for students from any background. Class members will learn how to eliminate debt, protect against financial hardship, and prepare for the future. This course will help you learn about, create, and use a budget. You will begin to build an emergency fund, create a debt elimination plan, learn to save for future expenses, and plan for retirement. Each group meeting lasts about two hours. Spouses are encouraged to attend together. Space is limited to 12 students total. Please contact Kayle Neeley at 480-766-1215 if interested in attending.

Jon Wangnild Memorial Family Fun Shoot July 4

MEEKER | The Meeker Sportsman’s Club and Colorado Parks and Wildlife are hosting the Jon Wangnild Memorial Family Fun Shoot from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, July 4 at the Meeker Sportsman’s Club Shooting Range (2553 Sulphur Creek Rd. approximately 1.4 miles past the end of the pavement — follow the signs.) Try your hand at archery, pistols, rifles and muzzleloaders, free! Bring the whole family for some fun. All equipment, ammunition and assistance provided. For information call Scott at 970-756-9599 or John at 970-878-3456.

Glenwood Springs rafting trip July 6

MEEKER | “I’m melting, I’m melting!” Be assured, there will be no witches aboard on this wet and wild raft trip. Sign up early for this day long trip departing July 6 at 9:30 a.m. from the ERBM Recreation Center parking lot. Transportation is included in the $70 early bird pricing. The price includes the guided raft trip and transportation to Glenwood. If we still have seats available after June 22, the price will be $80 per person. We will be stopping for lunch, so pack a lunch or bring money for lunch and snacks. We will be picnicking close to some fast food places. A water bottle would be a good idea too. Final registration deadline is June 29. Everyone must sign a liability waver. Don’t worry, we haven’t lost anyone yet! Brave youths from 12 to 18 years can come, but need a parent/guardian to sign the waiver. Dress for splashing water and wild paddling. Shorts, T-shirt, bathing suits, sport sandals, sunblock and a waterproof hat you don’t mind sacrificing to the river. Bring a set of clothes for the return trip. Wet seats are no fun! If you are not sure you are up to three hours of adventure, be aware we will be frolicking beautiful Glenwood Canyon waters in Class III and Class IV rapids. In case you are unfamiliar with the lingo, Class III rapids are full of thrills. Class IV can have more challenging stretches of river with big rocks for your raft guide to maneuver around and standing waves. You could get dunked, but be assured our experienced guide has your safety as his first priority. Safety vests will be provided, but dress for wetness.
