Special to the Herald Times
Meeker | The Compassionate Friends (TCF) Worldwide Candle Lighting unites family and friends around the globe for one hour to honor the memories of their sons and daughters. As candles are lit at 7 p.m. Local time, hundreds of thousands of people commemorate and honor the memory of all children gone too soon.
Now believed to be largest mass candle lighting on the globe, the 20th annual Worldwide Candle Lighting, a gift to the bereavement community from The Compassionate Friends, creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone.
TCF’s Worldwide Candle Lighting started in the United States in 1997 as a small internet observance, but has since swelled in numbers as word has spread throughout the world. Hundreds of formal candle lighting events are held and thousands of informal candle lightings are conducted in homes as family gather in quiet remembrance of children who have died but will never be forgotten.
A formal candle lighting event will be held in Meeker on Dec. 11, 2016, in the Mountain Valley Bank community room at 400 Main St. (use the door on Fourth Street or in the back of the building).
If you would like to share a remembrance of your child, please print your brief thoughts on a card. You read aloud before you light the candle. Participants are encouraged to bring a picture of their child with their name on it so others might have an opportunity to get acquainted with them.
Come at 6 p.m. for sharing and fellowship. Drinks will be served and you may bring a snack if you like. For questions or to RSVP, call Sue at 878-4502 or Jean at 878-4543.
