A congressional senate committee has approved the inclusion of $350,000 in congressionally directed spending (CDS) to go toward the Rio Blanco Law Enforcement Training Center project, funding secured by Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo).
The 2023 appropriations bill that includes the funding for Rio Blanco County will have to pass both the House and the Senate.
“These projects and priorities are direct reflections of the conversations I’ve had with Coloradans about the biggest challenges that face our state,” said Bennet. “I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass final legislation that responds to the needs of our communities.”
If passed, the $350,000 would be used to transform the Rio Blanco County Detention Center — currently not in use as a county jail — into a state-of-the-art law enforcement training center. The center would be the first of its kind on the Western Slope and could be an additional source of revenue for the county by charging a fee to outside agencies to use the facility.
