From Penrose, Colo., Fred Ellis, who actually started the Meeker Cowboy Poet Gathering in 1999, was the evening headliner. He performed several of his cowboy poems, each of which was tagged with a classic tip of the hat.

Caitlyn Taussig, who with her mother and sister runs a ranch in Kremmling, Colo., performed several of her own songs at the Meeker Cowboy Poet Gathering. Singing from childhood at countless cowboy gatherings, she has also performed at the famous National Cowboy Poet Gathering in Elko, Nev., “which is a big deal for those of us in this genre,” she said. Her debut CD was released in 2015.
