This year’s Cowboy Up award recipient is Kay Bivens (center), pictured with MSD superintendent Chris Selle (left) and MHS principal Amy Chinn (right.)The Meeker High School Class of 2020 established the Cowboy Up Award to “honor people, past and present, who have displayed an extraordinary commitment to or support of Meeker High School. Honorees can be from any time in the history of Meeker High School. Honorees must be of high moral character and good role models for students.” Kay Bivens was recognized during halftime at the home basketball game last week. Bivens served as a librarian at Meeker Elementary School for 25 years. She taught nearly 1,200 students during her time there. She shared her passion for reading with every student who came through her classroom, and she loved helping the more reluctant students find their own passions through reading. When she saw “the light turn on,” she felt as though she’d been successful with her job. She finds joy in the little things in life. She wants to remind everyone: “Never forget to read a picture book.”
