This week Cowboy Volleyball traveled to Plateau Valley on a very rainy Friday for their season home opener.
“With 38 girls out for volleyball this year and I have never had a gym this full,” commented head coach Greg Cravens.
JV won their games 25-13 and 25-12.
“I get ultra focused on my varsity kids, but it was nice to sit back and watch the kids play and see what they have been focusing on the last few weeks, both of them did great and it was a good time,” said Cravens.
During the JV game water started falling down the back wall of the new gym at Plateau Valley. “We knew it was leaking, but then during varsity warm up it started to get on the court,” commented Cravens.
The rain had been coming down for a very long time and the chance of it stopping was slim in the near future. The game was moved into the auxiliary gym, but it is a lot smaller and with a low ceiling.
“We practice high passes and high sets, it drives me nuts, but that is what the girls do. I was apprehensive about it, but the girls just wanted to play, I was so pleased with how they played and handled the small gym, said Cravens.
The Cowboys won in three: 25-20, 25-21, 25-10.
“I have a younger team than I have had over the last few years, I have sophomores stepping up and juniors that have not played varsity before, it was great to watch them,” commented Cravens.
Emma Luce had 23 kills, four aces, and 22 digs, Ainsley Selle had five kills, seven digs, and one block, Ellie Hossack had two aces and 16 assists, Grace Roberts had two aces, 10 digs, and 15 serve receives, and Graycee Cravens had 18 assists.
This week the team has a varsity only match in Debeque on Thursday game time, Friday they will travel to North Fork for C, JV, and varsity beginning at 4 p.m., and then Saturday morning the C and JV teams have a tournament in Grand Valley time is still TBA, followed by, still on Saturday, C, JV, and Varsity in their home openers hosting the Hayden Tigers with games beginning at 4 p.m.
