MEEKER | The Cowboys took on three opponents last week, Vail Mountain, Grand Valley, and North Fork. Finishing the weekend 2-1, they are 8-5 overall and as of Tuesday, sitting 25th in the rankings.
In game one for the week, the Cowboys traveled to Vail Mountain. The Gore Rangers were able to squeak ahead in the third quarter, but the Cowboys shut them down in the fourth, final score 53-48.
Ryan Sullivan broke the 20 points mark by one to lead Meeker, Jace Mobley put up 17 and both Casey Brink and Jonathan Fitzgibbons each had six.
With only one game on their home court, game two did not go the Cowboy way. In the previous match up between the Cardinals and the Cowboys, Meeker came out on top. Grand Valley led at the half by nine points and the Cowboys were unable to close that gap until the fourth quarter. The game came down to the last few seconds where Meeker was forced to foul to regain control, and they fell 54-59.
Sullivan, who had 17 points, drained four, three point shots that moved the Cowboys ahead for the first time in the game. Fitzgibbons had 13 points and Brink six. Fitzgibbons led off of the boards with 16 rebounds and Brink had seven.
North Fork was the second win on the weekend. Nearly everyone got some playing time and contributed to the 58-31 win.
Brink topped the scorers with 17, Mobley had 11, Fitzgibbons nine and Ethan Quinn eight.
This week the Cowboys are set to face both Olathe and Roaring Fork for the second time this season. Friday’s game against Olathe will be at home with boys JV beginning at 4 p.m. and Saturday the games in Carbondale will also begin at 4 p.m.
