MEEKER | The Cowboy finished last weekend with 3 wins and a 7-3 season and standing 2-1 in the league.
The first win came Thursday evening against Little Snake River from Baggs, Wyoming 60-42.
“We really like playing Little Snake River because the kids always play really hard regardless of their talent level. We hit shots in the first half and we made them chase us,” commented head coach Klark Kindler.
“We went inside with success early on and they took that away and so we shifted it out to the guards,” said Kindler, “then Ryan Sullivan came off the bench and at one time was 3 for 3 in three pointers”.
Caprock was the closest game of the weekend with a final score of 33-30.
“We struggled early to hit our shots we had all these open looks on Thursday and then Friday nothing went in,” commented Kindler, “we want to play the best but really couldn’t find a rhythm, but finally found a little success going inside and took a small lead when they switched to zone, and we got the stop we needed to win.”
Soroco, another league opponent, came to Meeker Saturday and the Cowboys won big 57-30.
Leading stats this weekend Liam Deming 44 points, Zagar Brown 26 points, Zach Simonsen 25 points, and Sullivan 19 points.
Two huge games this week, for the Cowboys, Rangely on Thursday who only has two league losses and then Saturday Vail Mountain and they only have one league loss to Caprock.
“If we can get the two wins this weekend and then Vail Mountain beats Vail Christian we will be tied once again for top in the league,” said Kindler.
This Thursday at home games begin at 4:30 pm, and Saturday again at home, games begin at 1pm.
