Meeker Herald ~ 125 years ago

The weather was more spring like during the past week.

Word reached town yesterday that a man was found dead in a cabin on the east fork of Big Beaver. Coroner Niblock has gone up there to investigate.

Dave Karren has bought the WH Jones ranch in Powell Park.

Meeker Herald ~ 100 years ago

Lester Burns returned Saturday from Denver, where he spent most of the winter.

Ed Delaney of lower White was a Meeker visitor for a few days forepart of the week.

Mrs Roy Graham and children have returned from California after spending the winter in that sunny land. 

Meeker Herald ~ 50 years ago

In what was expected to be a very close race for the Meeker Mayorship, Pioneers Hospital Administrator Russ McDaniel collected almost three times as many votes as his nearest competitor, Ron Gitchell in Tuesday’s city election. 

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Love completed their move over the weekend from Leadville to the Norell Ranch in Powell Park, formerly owned by Mr. and Mrs. Jim Brown. Mr. Love, who has taught for a six year period, has resigned from his teaching duties as math instructor at the Leadville High School.

The Speech Team of Meeker High School, in lieu of their annual spring concert for the community, is organizing a Speaker’s Bureau. Students in the speech program are now preparing selections for interpretive reading from children’s literature, adult literature, and original speeches from topics of current interest in this area. 

Meeker Herald ~ 25 years ago

On February 23, sixty-one musicians from Barone Middle School traveled to Aspen to participate in the State Solo and Ensemble festival. Out of the forty-five performances put on by the students, twenty four of them achieved the highest rating possible.

John Christopher Strate and Kirstie Mae Cook were married March 13, 1999 at the Freeman Fairfield Building. 

A little rain and a LOT of lightning stopped the Meeker Relays last Saturday, March 27th. 

RANGELY TIMES ~ 50 years ago

With 50% of all registered voters casting ballots, 407 voted for mayor and six members of the board of trustees tuesday. James Sinclair was elected mayor, receiving 203 votes. Troy A. Pollard, his opponent, received 184 votes for the office. There were 839 registered voters this year.

Damages were extensive last Wednesday evening to the Rangely Exchange building when a pickup driven by Gordon Goddard, Rangely, crashed into the storage area of the building. 

Guests on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Herman were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Newland from Grand Junction.

RANGELY TIMES ~ 25 years ago

Allan Ward’s journalism class at Rangely Middle School went on a field trip to see how the Rangely Times is produced. They get a tour of the Rangely Times, the Meeker Herald, and to Cook & Company to watch the paper being printed.

On March 11 at 7 pm, Rangely High School’s National Honor Society welcomed eighteen new members.

On March 23, volunteers and staff from St. Mary’s Hospital arrived in Rangely to take blood. Sixty-two local humanitarians showed up for the drive, which was sponsored by CNCC.
