- Next Friday is Arbor Day. Celebrate in the most useful and practical way– by planting trees.
- Harry Niblock and a force of carpenters have been at work on St. James Church during the past week putting up mouldings and wood-work finishings.
- Henry P. Elbert, a recent arrival in this county, was arrested in Powell Park last Monday, charged with unlawful cohabiting with Daisy Elbert, his own daughter.

- An exhibition of drawing and art-craft done by seventh grade was given last Saturday in the library rooms. Many people saw this work and were surprised and delighted. Seventh grade teacher Miss Jones deserves much credit for her instruction.
- CW Dins, the popular business manager of the Craig Empire, spent a couple of days in Meeker last week, and while here did a good job “doctoring” our linotype, Many thanks.

- John Villa, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Villa, of Meeker, left New York Saturday for Munich, Germany, where he will be studying the German language for the next two months. The class is sponsored by Colorado College in Colorado Springs where John is a Boettcher Scholar.
- Russ and Yvonne Larimer are the new managers of the Meeker Golf Course.

- Ben Arnold, Danny Arnold, Katie Stewart, Beth Hollowed and Nick Buckman are the elite swimmers for the Meeker Makos’ 1997 summer season. Why are they in this privileged group? These five athletes received at least one high point trophy during the season. To receive the honor of high-point winner at a swim meet, a swimmer must have scored points in their events (first place earns the most points), and the swimmer with the most points in each age group gets a trophy for that meet.
- For a number of years, the Meeker High School uniforms and color scheme has been black and gold. But the official colors since about 1920 are silver and gold. The student council wants to make the official colors silver, black, and gold, but in order to convince the administration needs the opinions and approval of other students.

- Richard S. Tousley, superintendent of Dinosaur National Monument, announces the observance of Environmental Education Emphasis week from April 15- 21, 1973: and the third annual contest for more than 2,000 students in Uintah, Utah and Moffat and Western Rio Blanco counties, Colorado.
- Dennis Perry, Western Unity, Ohio, and former Rangely College player, signed a professional baseball contract with the Philadelphia Phillies recently.

- In what turned out to be a very competitive municipal election on April 7, incumbent Don Peach narrowly defeated Bernie Rice to continue on as the mayor of Rangely.
- The Rangely KIWANIS Club recently recognized national Honors Society students from Rangely High School at a banquet in the CNCC Weiss Center.
