• Vol. XII — NO. 53
• Baer Bros. have received the last installment of the cattle they bought last spring.
• Liberal rains visited this section of the valley Sunday afternoon and Tuesday afternoon and night.
• The Vaughan outfit has added another bunch to their already large herd. The latest acquisition is the Gillum cattle from Rangely.
• Phil Barnhart brought word in Tuesday evening that Jack Lowe, one of the drivers on the Meeker-Rifle stage, was taken violently insane at Rifle that morning. Later in the day the afflicted man was taken to Glenwood, and after the proper judicial inquiry, will be taken to Pueblo. Lowe has been driving on the Meeker-Rifle line for the past two years and was considered a good driver. He was of a taciturn disposition and had no intimates. Nothing is known here regarding his antecedents.

• As the time for school to open again approaches, the need for small dwelling houses becomes more apparent. We need small residences badly.
• Good progress is being made these days in preparing for the coming County Fair and Race meet.
• We have finally located the meanest man in town. He stumbled upon a fine large “cache” of the stuff that makes things look bright, in the county road machinery building, last Sunday evening, but instead of putting a select few of his friends “next” as he should have done, goes and tells the wrong people, with the result that the exhilarating fluid fell into alien hands, as it were.

• Some people called it a small tornado and others say not, but everyone agreed that the wind storm that struck Meeker Sunday evening at 10:20 was one of the strongest and most unusual storms any had seen. Very little rain fell.
• Present this ad at the Meeker A&W and receive one Papaburger and mug of famous A&W Root Beer for 50¢.
• The Meeker Chief of Police, Don Brossow, turned in his resignation last week to take a new job in Alaska. This is the second Chief of Police Meeker has lost in two months. Brossow said he was leaving because his new job had better hours and more pay.

• Meeker has a tough climate. If you don’t believe it, ask the Siplast roofing company. They will probably end up paying up to $100,000 or more to replace part of the Meeker high school roof because of our weather.
• The Meeker Lions Club had a great turnout for the sod laying party at the pre-school and kindergarten playground at the Education Center over the weekend. More than 20 volunteers laid down 13 tons of sod, and planted numerous trees and shrubs in less than two hours or so.

• Division “B” softball champs, representing Al’s Grocery, are Robin Fairchild, Craig Stephson, Bob Fairchild, Kent Parrish, Harry Stephson, Les Holliday, Dave Fox, Evert Jones, Jerry Crook, Dennis Fernandez, Terrill Coy, Scott Brady, Mike Smith and Danny Hejl.
• The Rio Blanco County Mental Health Committee has become a reality in the past month. With the motto: “To maintain and improve the mental and emotional wellbeing of the citizens of Rio Blanco County,” the first workshop, “Dynamics of Suicide” was held in McLaughlin Hall in Rangely.

• In a 3-1 vote July 30, the Planning Commission voted to recommend developer Steve Hejl’s proposed Plateau subdivision to the Town Council.
• The roof of the Rangely Rec. Center provided an excellent view of Parkview Elementary’s new $133,000 driveway and parking facilities.
• The summer long wait for Rangely’s newest eatery is finally over/ Jess Ratajczak, owner of Escalante Motel, opens the door of his new Subway sandwich shop, ready for business!
