As the story goes a man (no, it couldn’t have been a Meekerite) recently made his wife a birthday present of a mammoth parlor lamp. She gave it his name and when asked to explain, said, “Well, you know, dear, it has a good deal of brass about it. It is handsome to look at, requires a great deal of attention, is sometimes unsteady on its legs, is liable to explode when half full, flares up occasionally, is always out at bedtime, and bound to smoke.”

L.P. Craig and family moved down from their Danforth park ranch Monday and Tuesday, and have taken up their residence in the place vacated by Eddie Fairfield, who has moved into his new house.

Certain outbuilding situated upon property located with the Town of Meeker being considered a menace to public health and safety by the Board, the clerk was duly instructed to notify such property owners to remove the objectionable structures from their premises or from the premises in their charge.

Our hustling neighboring town of Craig has organized a Lions Club. Why not a Lions Club for Meeker? This is now a nationwide organization; its main objects being civic betterment and industrial advancement.

For the past couple of months, many people have complained about how the trash removal system worked, which at first forced residents to pay a $2.50 monthly fee even if they didn’t want trash picked up. The council tacked on an amendment to the ordinance last night. The amendment will change things so that if the trash removal services are not used, no charge will be assessed.

On Thanksgiving, Tres [puppy] showed up at the home of Bill Ekstrom in rural Meeker. His siblings made their way to the home of Laurie Brooks. Tres came to live at the Walbridge Wing after he was found. One of his hind feet had either been cut off or frozen off shortly before he was rescued. The puppy is happy and the nursing home patients are happy.

Instead of raising the price of postage, why doesn’t the Postal Service use smaller stamps?

Never before in our history has irresponsibility been so socially acceptable.

RHS placed second in the Northwestern Knowledge Bowl League meet. Nine teams competed in the event.

The final public hearing was an ordinance to amend the Rangely municipal code to increase the compensation for members of the Board of Trustees from $75 to $100 per month and to increase the compensation for the mayor from $100 to $150 per month. “I really think that if we look at paying council members, that it ought to be contingent on showing up for the meeting,” stated boar member Maxine Fullbright. Her comment sparked a minor debate that divided the council members on the subject of being paid only if they attend meetings.
