There is some talk of buying steel cages for the county jail, and the proposition will be put before the commissioners in a favorable light at their forthcoming session. Under present conditions prisoners are taken to Glenwood or Leadville for safe keeping, and the cost of maintenance and transportation to and from these points is greater, it is claimed, than the expense of keeping them at home would be.
Wm. Lacy and a gang of men started back on the mesa last Monday to finish surveying the White river ditch.

The Christmas Tree is set up at the intersection of Main and Sixth streets–the Oldland block corner.
Our stores were never before stocked with a larger or more varied line of holiday goods. Despite alleged hard times, trade was good.
District Attorney Frank Delaney came over from Glenwood to attend Mrs. Sarah Oldland’s funeral.

Mrs. Slack’s first grade class wrote letters to Santa.Teddy Russel Bina writes, “Please, may I have a bike for Christmas, and a doll for my little sister.”
Mr. and Mrs. Theron Strickland and son Robert will be driving over from Denver to be with Mrs. Strickland’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Buckles.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Armstrong and family of Kanab, Utah and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Starbuck and family of Boulder are expected to arrive Saturday for the Christmas holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Starbuck.

Meeker elementary school student Kacey Crawford landed a starring role as Santa in the school’s annual Christmas program. The yuletide extravaganza, orchestrated by Mary Jessop and a cohort of dedicated assistants, is one of the highlights of the school year in Meeker and pretty much fills the high school auditorium.
Barone Middle School band director Tom Allen, high school director Van Merritt, and elementary school music director Mary Jessup maintain a strong musical program for Meeker students, to the delight of the Meeker residents who are treated to a number of musical productions each year.

Mrs. Betty Pidcock, second grade teacher in Rangely Elementary School, was selected as one of four finalists for Teacher of the Year Selection Committee.
All young people of the community, 60 years and over, will be guests of honor at a Christmas Party on Friday at the LDS Church.

On Thursday, December 11, the children of CNCC faculty and staff were invited to the college for holiday refreshments and to visit with Santa at the Annual CNCC Children’s Christmas party.
The Panther wrestlers placed fourth out of nine teams at the Steamboat Invitational Tournament. Moffat County won the tournament, followed by Eagle Valley and Meeker.
