- David Smith has purchased the Morton ranch adjoining the town on the west, giving, we understand, a good stiff price for the same. In due time Mr. Smith will build a handsome suburban residence on the property.
- The clog dancing contest between the Hon. Frank Sheridan and Assistant Postmaster Fisk was won in a canter by the latter.

- An unusual and peculiar phenomenon presented itself Monday afternoon when a thunder and lightning storm prevailed in the Danforth hills — north of town. The electric disturbance was followed by heavy black clouds and a hail storm. It is safe to say the oldest inhabitant never before witnessed anything like this in February, in these parts.
- A one-seated one-half horsepower electric cycle car, which can be charged by ordinary electric current through a transformer, is being made in Japan.

- In a surprise move, the Town Planning Commission passed on a motion to recommend to the Town Council that all the area through town, along the White River, be rezoned as open space. Mayor Ed Jirak commented that in his talks with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, during their recent tour of the ice jam area, they had recommended that the town not allow any further building along the river.
- Participants in the Meals on Wheels program will begin receiving a hot meal in their home Monday of next week, it was announced this week.

- Bill Ertmer, the highly respected principal at Meeker Elementary School for the past 25 years, submitted his letter of resignation to the Meeker Board of Education at the board’s Feb. 17 meeting.
- Avalanche danger is worse than it has been in years. Area snowmobilers and back country skiers need to use extreme caution, as slopes that never seem to slide in the past are sliding.

- The White River Bowmen hosted one of the largest shoots in years at their clubhouse last Sunday. Nearly 40 archers shot the P.A.A. round and enjoyed the dinner provided by the clubwomen. Derry Banta and Gerald Ahrens, both WRB, shared the top score of the day with 298 or 300 points.
- The Secretary of the Interior Rogers C.B. Morton, and Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Dixy Lee Ray, announced today their decision to proceed with execution of an underground atomic test on Federal land in the Piceance Basin in northwestern Colorado. The experiment will consiste of three 30 kiloton nuclear explosives being fired simultaneously in a single well bore to fracture gas bearing strata at 5500 to 6900 feet underground. Natural gas will then flow through the rock fractures into large interconnected vertical chimneys created by the explosions.

- The Missoula Children’s Theater performed “Alice in Wonderland” perfectly on Feb. 13, in spite of the unlucky performance date. It was a shining example of Rangely at its best.
- A fire erupted inside a storage tank near highways 139 and 64 during a cutting torch procedure. The tank was being salvaged. After examining the situation, the Rangely Rural Fire Protection District determined to let the fire die a natural death.
