Dr. French was a passenger on the outgoing stage Monday morning en route to Plymouth, Pennsylvania, to visit “the folks at home.” The doctor will be absent two months or longer.
Our local weather prognosticators say the storms of the past week or so mean an early spring. We hope so.

As we go to press, The Herald received a telegram from the United Press announcing that Woodrow Wilson was seriously ill and not expected to survive.
Paul and Mrs. Dunn were out in Denver last week. Although Mrs. Dunn was born and raised in Colorado, it was her first visit to the capital city, and naturally she was surprised to see such a large and beautiful city at the junction of the Platte and Cherry Creek. The Dunns had a fine outing.
AB Critchlow was a business visitor to Meeker last of the week on business affairs.

Our co-op manager Vern Bowman and wife, Malvin Crawford and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Amick were among those traveling to Mexico City, Mexico Saturday on a trip sponsored by Farmland Industries.
Mr. and Mrs. Claude Shults returned Sunday from a week’s visit on the eastern slope. The couple enjoyed a two-day visit in Greeley at the home of Mrs. Shults’ cousin Jack Miller.
Becky Long, Meeker High School sophomore and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Long, received a perfect score and a superior rating at the district speech meet held at Glenwood Springs Jan. 26.

During a routine meeting on Feb. 2, the Meeker Town Council accepted the low bid of $22,512 from Columbine Ford for a new police car. The contract amount includes $2,100 for an extended warranty.
Steven North of Meeker has earned a degree in Management Information Systems from Bellevue University. Founded in 1966, Bellevue University is Nebraska’s largest accredited independent institution of higher learning.
Meeker’s JV wrestlers traveled to Grand Junction last Saturday, Jan 30, and participated in a tough 12-team tournament. The Cowboys finished fourth with 79.5 points behind Fruita who had 84.5 points. Moffat County won the tournament with 194 points giving Grand Junction second place with 174.

Ninety-six percent of the homes in the U.S. have TV but only 85 percent have bathtubs, which could mean that there is a lot more brainwashing than bodywashing going on.
Exhibition of Leonardo da Vinci’s work remains at Rangely College until Feb. 13.
For the first time in history, the Rangely High School gymnasium will be the scene of the Northwest League Jr. High basketball tournament Feb. 2.

Rangely held its first 4-H Council meeting on Jan. 11, 1999.
Kyle Olree has been awarded two scholarships at the University of Idaho, when he begins there next fall.
Now that 1999 is underway, this year’s Range Call Royalty is starting to get busy. The 1999 Meeker Range Call Queen is Miss Miranda Jackson of Rangely, daughter of Danny and Brenda Jackson.
