The Meeker Herald ~ 125 years ago

  • Manager Moulton of the Hugus company left for Denver Thursday morning where he will hold his annual spring conference with representatives of eastern houses from whom the company buys dry goods, etc, etc.
  • Late reports from the Douglas Creek and Rangely sections of the range indicate that cattle losses will be large due to an unusually heavy snowfall and limited hay supply.

The Meeker Herald ~ 100 years ago

  • A report came from Denver Thursday afternoon that a contract was about to be let for the building of a railroad from Meeker to some point on Colorado River. Nothing is known here of such a project. Hope there is something other than a rumor to back it.
  • Some fine stock, farm and household goods will be disposed of at public sale at the Sheridan Ranch on March 8th, 10 a.m.

The Meeker Herald ~ 50 years ago

  • A one-car accident Saturday night killed a 16-year-old Meeker High School student after he lost control of his car while rounding a corner. Two passengers received injuries while three others were apparently not injured.
  • At approximately 2 p.m. on Tuesday, firemen responded to the Findlay Trailer park where they found the insulation below a trailer on fire. Fire Chief DeWayne Merriam said the occupant was trying to thaw out some frozen water pipes and the insulation underneath the mobile home caught fire.

The Meeker Herald ~ 25 years ago

  • The Meeker Elementary students got to see a lot of stars at the administration building earlier this week. A special inflatable planetarium was set up in the gym, and all students were treated to a special program of stargazing with tales of ancient mythology and how the the constellations got their names.
  • The Meeker Herald’s highly successful Pick-A-Pet program won the Colorado Press Association’s state community leadership award. The Herald started Pick-A-Pet in October 1995 when the newspaper discovered it was possible for a homeless dog to be put to sleep in Meeker before the owner even knew the dog was in the animal shelter. The program, facilitated by Kelly Halandras, furnishes dog food to maintain dogs long enough to give the newspaper a chance to find new homes for the animals.

Rangely Times ~ 50 years ago

  • At a joint meeting of the Rangely Town Council, Meeker Town Council, and Rio Blanco Board of County Commissioners it was announced that the county did not plan on doing any paving projects within the towns of Rangely and Meeker this year.

Rangely Times ~ 25 years ago

  • According to Mayor Don Peach, RHS students Nate Polly and Jacob Tipton submitted letters to the town about constructing a skate park facility in Rangely. Dave Morton, who has agreed to head up a citizens committee to pursue the idea, has also approached Peach. RHS student Ryan Cook explained how a skate park would benefit Rangely. “I think it would help the community and give the kids something to do, and keep them out of trouble,” Cook said.
  • The price of gasoline is on the decline throughout Colorado, however prices at the pumps in Rangely remain nearly the same. While Denver’s price has dipped beneath $1, Rangely has remained steadily at $1.35.
