• Gates Kersberg of Cripple Creek, was here this week looking up a business opening and will be opening a wholesale liquor house here shortly.

• After a good deal of hard work extending from Thursday of last week to Monday of this week, Simp Harp and his men got the government road so cleared of snow drifts that stages were running on schedule by the last named day.

• An avalanche on the Moffat Road last Sunday morning hurled an engine off the track and 700 feet down the mountain side, killing four men and injuring two.

• The White River Lumber Company office is resplendent in a new coat of paint and decorative effect.

• Also you can’t teach some new dogs old tricks.

• On February 8th, Meeker Community Concert Association presented the second number in its 1971-1972 series with an evening of folk-music by guitarist and singer Guy Carowan. 

• Four Rangely College students were charged with assault and battery in Rio Blanco County Court for hazing another student.

• Barny Leblanc takes the place of state runner up in his weight class for the State Wrestling Championships.

• At the recent Solo & Ensemble Festival on February 18, 25 Barone Middle School students received excellent ratings on their arrangements from the competition’s judges.

• “The Many Moods of Mount McKinley” will be the subject of a talk to be given by Earnest Scott, Green River District Ranger, at the Rangely College. 

• The journalism class at Rangely High School accompanied by instructor Jean Schooler, visited The Rangely Times Friday morning to learn about the operations of the weekly newspaper.

• Ty Petersburg pins Holyoke wrestler Tyler Chappell at the state Wrestling Championships and takes the first place title. 

• 21 members of the community, representing several agencies and organizations, teamed up last week to participate in a two day alcohol and drug prevention program sponsored by the Rangely Human Resource Council.
