Spring can’t be far off. A solitary blackbird made its appearance the other day.
Late reports from the Douglas Creek and Rangely sections of the range indicate that cattle losses will be large. An unusually heavy fall of snow and a limited supply of hay are given as combined causes of loss. It is to be hoped, however, that later reports will be more favorable.
We do not assert that it means anything, but statistics show that there are fewer fires among the uninsured than among the insured.

Miss Theo Donnel of Rifle has been visiting Margaret Oldland forepart of the week. Incidentally we might add that Reuben was in the evidence on several occasions.
George Wear of lower White was a visitor last Saturday.
March comes in pretty tame. According to ye ancient dope this means it will go out like a member of the Lion’s Club.

Mrs. Rowena Peters of Craig and formerly of Meeker is proud to announce the engagement of her daughter, Pamela Peters, to Mr. Russel Tow of Craig.
Mrs. Maggie Cassidy, who was celebrating her 91st birthday Sunday, was guest of honor at the coffee hour following the morning worship at St. James Episcopal church.
Rainbow Valley Club met February 13 at the home of Patty Papez with Judy Murray assisting.

Snow conditions this winter started out poor and then proceeded to get worse. Finally the area began receiving several heavy wet storms to bring it back up.
The first Meeker Cowboy Poet Gathering and beginning of a Meeker Cowboy Renaissance weekend celebration was a big success.
Pat Sheeran Dagget will have her paintings of Spain on display at the Art Students League of Denver. 200 Grant St. from March 5th – March 26th. Stop by if you are in the area!

Five members of the student council traveled to Craig, Tuesday, under the supervision of Mr. McDaniel. The third quarterly meeting of the League Student Council was being held there. Those going from Rangely were Dana Bulwan, Lois Barnhart, Kirby Burchett, Karen McCarver, and Alan Stahlecker.
The RHS Band received their new uniforms Monday. They ordered 55 of them to replace the old ones which were in pretty bad shape having been used for a good number of years previously.
The Rangely College Spartans java qualified for the Regional Tournament in Yuma, Arizona on March 1 and 2 with 24 wins and five losses.

Krista Meier, formerly of Rangely, was named to the Dean’s List at the University of Mary at Bismarck, N.D. Krista needed a 3.5 or better to qualify for the Dean’s List. She is currently working toward her Masters Degree in Physical Therapy.
The Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual meeting and crab crack on Saturday, February 27. One hundred forty-four people from Roosevelt, UT to Rifle, CO turned out to crack some crab.
Glendon Berret and Mike Rasmussen, both formerly of Rangely, were named to the Dean’s list for the 1998-1999 academic school year at Colorado School of Mine’s.
