Meeker Herald ~ 125 years ago

The Odd Fellows will celebrate St. Valentine’s Day, next Tuesday evening, February 14, by giving a dance at their hall.

Vernal is considerably worked up over alleged late gold discoveries in the vicinity of the Colorado-Utah line.

There ought to be no scarcity of water in this or any other section of Colorado next summer.

Neither an ax nor a man can cut much wood if they are always flying off at the handle.

We’ve made a lot of progress since holdin’ hands was regarded as about the last step this side of the altar.

This town is now experiencing an epidemic of frozen water pipes. Well, the plumber must live.

R. G. Lyttle took a flight out of Denver Wednesday for San Diego, California where he will be visiting with relatives and friends in the area. Enroute home at a later date, he plans to visit with his sister-in-law and husband in Mesa, Arizona.

Mrs. Hilda Rawlinson will teach the Modpodge 4-H project again this year to anyone who is interested.

Mrs. Dale Ayars of Arvada and Mrs. Peggy Strate of Wheatridge traveled to Meeker Saturday morning for a weekend visit. Saturday evening in celebration of Mrs. Ayars’ father, Francis Kennedy, and Mrs. Strate’s grandson, Regas Halandras, a birthday dinner was hosted at the Gus Halandras home.

Meeker Herald ~ 25 years ago

In the 1880s, about the time the town of Meeker was established, there were two distinctly and uniquely American traditions: the trapper rendezvous and the cowboy gathering. The trappers’ rendezvous and the cowpokes’ gathering had one thing in common: give the trappers and the cowboys a chance to let their hair down. The Meeker Cowboy Poetry Gathering will take place on Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. at the fairground, and at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

The good news is, Meeker has a good bunch of young wrestlers. The bad news is, they didn’t wrestle so well last week. The Cowboys lost to Rifle 24-51.

Andy Coryell, of Meeker, has been named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Phillips 66 Fall Scholar Athlete list. To be eligible for the honor, a candidate must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better; must have participated in the institution for two or more semesters in at least one sport; must have earned at least one letter; must be a starter or key reserve and must be of good character.

RANGELY TIMES ~ 50 years ago

People can be divided into three main groups: those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and those who wonder what happened.

The Theta Zeta Sorority is throwing a Sweetheart Ball on February 9th at Elk’s Lodge with proceeds going to the March of Dimes.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Davis visited the Butch Davis family in Vernal Saturday afternoon.

RANGELY TIMES ~ 25 years ago

With outstanding all around play, the Rangely Varsity lady Panthers defeated Basalt on Feb 5.

Daniel Bartling signed a national letter of intent to attend Mesa State College. Dan was voted all-lineman of the year on the western slope and named by the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News as all-state defensive lineman.

RHS put on a production of Into the Woods.
