Last Tuesday was the 139th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns, the Scotch poet, and Meeker’s Caledonian Club donned their kilts, blew the soul stirring bagpipe, danced Highland flings and otherwise observed the event in a befitting manner.
Messrs. R. Oldland, A. B. Critchlow, Charles Dickenson, Hugh Torrence and James L. McHatton are out in Denver this week attending the stockgrowers’ convention.

Claude Rees took a shipment of high class white faces to Denver last week and obtained 7 cents for them. Of course, they were dressed up for Stock Show Week, but at that it shows that raising classy stuff pays.
Last week Simp Harp put up ice measuring 18 inches thick and as clear as a crystal.
Temperatures reached 52 below at Craig last Thursday.

On Jan. 17 the Meeker Community Concert Association presented Duo-Harpists Longstreth and Escosa in the second concert of its 1972-72 series.
Meeker High School basketball coach Don Ziegler announced this week that a Parents Night will be held Saturday evening.

Dustin Allen took first place in the White River Soil Conservation District poster competition this year.
Dwayne “Buddy” Grinstead, Meeker native, has been named the Investigator of the Year by the state’s district attorneys.

Colorado State Patrolman James J. Johnson, stationed at Dinosaur since April of 1961, has been promoted to the rank of Sergeant, effective Feb. 13, and assigned to the Patrol’s Pueblo Division, stationed in LaJunta.
Kathy Caldwell, sophomore at Rangely High, was chosen as an All-Tournament Wrestling cheerleader at the conclusion of the District wrestling tournament at Craig recently. Kathy was presented a medal with the honor and attended the state wrestling tournament in Aurora where her brother Leonard was competing for state honors after winning the district championship in his weight.

34 cars competed in this year’s Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Race which showcased a brand new aluminum track. The track was funded through last year’s popcorn sales, as well as donations from Chevron and Conoco.
The EPA has made a supplemental request to Chevron production Inc. for information regarding brine water spills in the Rangely oil field. The EPA has given Chevron 30 days to provide additional information pursuant to Section 308 of the Clean Water Act.
