Jack Dunn reports the banana crop a failure up on Big Beaver, owing to backward season.
Owing to the appearance of smallpox within a few miles of Hayden, Routt county, that town has given up its intended Fourth of July celebration. This is a very commendable action on the part of Hayden.
The news from Denver relative to Dr. French’s condition is not so satisfactory, as it is reported that he will lose one eye and one hand will be disfigured. We still hope for a better showing.

Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Offerle of Buford spent a few days in town midweek. They report that as of yet, fishing is nothing to brag about.
Messrs W S Montogmery and Simon Bitterman made a fishing visit to Trappers Lake during the week and got all the law allows.

Announcement was made this week by Goosman Realty that construction of the first series of six new homes will begin immediately in Meeker.
Mayor Sinclair and wife of Rangely were among the out of town invited guests attending the Fairfield Complex dedication on Saturday.
Griff Thomas, former printer at the Herald, has written that he has moved on from Maxwell, Nebraska, and is presently spending some time at Canon City.

Early this week, employees at Pioneer Hospital learned that the old site plans for the hospital were wrong: the electrical line was not where the blueprints said it was. Instead, the main electrical line was right where the new Walbridge Wing nursing home addition is being built. So, soon after the big power shovel started excavating for the facility, the lights went out, and the emergency generator kicked on. And it stayed on for more than two days.
Meeker will be playing host to nine area teams for fastpitch softball at Paintbrush Park. This year’s visiting teams include Glenwood Springs, Craig, Rifle, Rangely, and New Castle.

Red Stevens was a visitor in Meeker Monday afternoon.
Miss Jean Stahlecker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Stahlecker, made a straight A (4.0) average during the spring quarter at Colorado State University.

Rio Blanco may soon see a dental van cruising the streets. That is what County Nurse Diane Banta told the county commissioners at the regular meeting on June 21. The van will be purchased by the Dental Coalition out of Craig. It will provide dental services to children who do not have insurance or Medicaid.
Dave and Jean Jordan of Rangely, Colorado are proud to announce the birth of their new grandson Jarrod Daniel Fiscus. His parents are Dan and Bobbie Fiscus of Parachute, Colorado.
